Support 527 Projects (and beyond)
This is where you can support the mission while I make sure my next chapter of work, and the next chapter of creative arts and entertainment in general, is a truly special era. I’ve spent my career contributing in small ways to where the “entertainment business” is going - and I think we’re getting there. That’s why I started 527 Projects (read more).
So why am I trying to do this independently? In this economy? Late last year, I hit pause on full-time work after 12 years, 9 of which I spent battling a newly diagnosed, rare disease: LGMD2i. I worked hard to not let my health affect my work - but almost never vice versa. I wondered how I’d feel if I stopped burning the candle at both ends, even for a short while. What if my work would also benefit from this?
So far - I feel better physically and mentally than this time last year, and I’m back at it helping musicians, creators and entertainers build, release and manage big idea online projects that they can sell directly to fans, sponsors, etc. However, there are few “jobs” in this space currently - so, for now, I’m creating my own.
I want to try and do what I love for a living without a company’s permission. This can be pretty scary - but most days I’m confident that, with a little help and a lot of work, I can keep securing clients/projects and build this small, independent studio of sorts to self-sustain - or become an addition to another forward-thinking entertainment operation.
So a donation of any size will pair with the income from some great freelance clients I already have lined up -and help with the following to really get things cooking:
Cover the early costs of starting up even a small, one person business.
Focus and build the pipeline of projects, clients ,etc - pitching services to artist and creator teams, developing projects and getting them out into the world with the best chance for success.
Hire occasional freelance help - I can do a lot, but I can’t do it all. And I don’t want to do this on island - I want to collaborate with great people as often as possible.
Offset some costs associated with battling a rare disease while building a business. The National Disability Institute estimates household costs for a disabled adult are 28% higher. That feels pretty accurate to me.
Experiment a little (like most new companies do!).
Supporting here also backs all my missions in one: A portion of proceeds across donations and 527 Projects’ revenue will also go to CureLGMD2i, a foundation that is funding treatment trials and research for patients who deal with the rare muscle disease LGMD2i. I’m currently in a clinical trial for the potential first-ever treatment for 2i that would not be possible without CureLGMD2i.
Lastly, I am far from the only person navigating career uncertainties and I recognize times are nuts (to put it scientifically) so nothing is expected and everything’s beyond appreciated. If you want to contribute, you can do so below! I’ll add you to my (very good and fun) newsletter list for updates as things proceed AND invite you to check out a live stream, music, video release or anything that comes out of 527 Projects.
Thank you for being here! PS you can also support/look stunning by buying a hat that says “online videos”.
